Austin City Limits 2011

I think the thing that I love about ACL every year is the variety. They always seem to have some bands that Mom would love. And since ACL also always books with their finger on youth pulse Mom will feel even more at home surrounded by every hip kid wearing high waisted jeans that she threw away in 1988.

Can I tell you how excited I am that Stevie Wonder is playing? I don’t pretend to be a connoisseur of the man’s music but the guy is a legend. It’s not like Arcade Fire won’t be great but they’re playing every festival this year so it wouldn’t differentiate ACL from anything. My Morning Jacket will surprise the hell out of everyone, again, because that’s what they do. I’m sure a ton on people will be into Kanye West too.

I love that ACL feels more like a complete lineup than I remember is years past. I think Randy Newman will be entertaining as hell, 1 hour of Randy Newman is about the right amount before he starts inciting violence in the crowd. Wanda Jackson is one of the best shows you’ll see, period. If you’re not feeling nostalgic they’ve got bands like Antlers, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Charles Bradley and Mariachi el Bronx who are all turning their respective genres upside down right now.

Yes ACL 2011 looks like a great one.
