Governors Ball 2014 – Honda Stage Preview Governors Ball 2014 – Honda Stage Preview

gov-ball-nycThings get bigger, better, brighter, wider, wilder by the stage. It always happens, man and then you find yourself in a bass trap clutch drunk with Kwame and the tears and the shaking and for days nothing seems right or ready for you to endure but you do because that’s just what you do, dude. Where was I going with this? I forget. I really need to get my ass a license. Rockit.

FRIDAY, 6.6!

12:15-12:45 – Little Comets – Indie trio with a big thud drum, a tropical guitar twang and a heavy devy heart. British.

1:30-2:15 – Run the Jewels – El P + Killer Mike = Fucking Maximus, man.

3:00-3:45 – The 1975 – When the Germans weren’t talking about twerking in the halcyon days of Texas, they were talking up The 1975.

4:45-5:45 – Jenny Lewis – Jenny Lewis was Rilo Kiley, right? Pretty indie pretty. Not sure what her new solo endeavorings sound like but I imagine country tinged 90s nostalgia hints at Girls casting couch croons.

6:45-8:00 – Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley – Reggae. You know my feelings.

9:15-10:30 – Damon Albarn – Mr. Blur has embarked on a successful solo career with the same insufferably catchy inconsistence as his time atop the Britpop bandwagoneers.

12:15-12:45 – Catfish and the Bottlemen – What a curious name. What an adorable young rock band full of adorable young rock feelings.

1:30-2:15 – RJD2 – World music electroclashing DJ with a taste for intrigue? I dunno from dancing.

3:00-3:45 – Classixx – More DJ. Big ups with the 70s summer groove.

4:45-5:45 – Disclosure – DANCE! DANCE! MORE DANCE! I’ve actually been hearing epic things about this band, lately. I think I thought they were an ambient act of savage experimentation. Der.

7:00-8:15 – Childish Gambino – Did anyone watch Donald Glover’s art film? I heard it was tres ponderous. Anyway, here’s him as hip hop, timely.

9:30-11:00 – Skrillex – Will I watch Skrillex? Yes. Yes, I will. More than Skrillex, however, I’ll be watching the people watching Skrillex because white people on rich drugs with stupid names are pretty much the cats pjs.

SUNDAY, 6.8!

12:15-12:45 – Cris Cab – White boy on the rasta pop soul. 21 years old.

1:30-2:15 – SKATERS – I really want to like this band for some reason but so much of their shtick is so much I hate about living in NYC. Especially the sweatshirts.

3:00-3:45 – Earl Sweatshirt – Many would contend that Mr. Sweatshirt is the best MC of the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All bunch. His last record was sure pretty decent.

4:45-5:45 – J. Cole – MC. Feels safe.

6:45-8:00 – James Blake – I am not such a fan of James Blake but I think his deconstructed, pomo soul is goddamn fascinating. Vital, even.

9:30-11:00 – AXWELL Λ INGROSSO – Two parts Swedish House Mafia. Hard beats, harder cash.
