Governors Ball 2014 – GovBallNYC Stage Preview Governors Ball 2014 – GovBallNYC Stage Preview

gov-ball-nycBig stage, big fun. The grand dame popping off hard the good, long summer run. This stage is where the serious shit is happening. The reason you came. The zeitgeist of the place and if there isn’t a damn thing here worth your jaw dropping to the floor you’re dead and witless for leaving so much cash and joy at the door but you wouldn’t dare, would you? You know the drill, the thrill, et al. of it all. Rockit.

FRIDAY, 6.6!

12:15-12:45 – Haerts – Huh. This is pretty much perfect music for a summer music festival.

1:30-2:15 – Jason Isbell – Ben’s boy. Broke heart country hope.

3:00-3:45 – Janelle Monae – R&B’s queen manic genius supreme. High concept sci-fi paradigms. I, ROBOT AM DANCE!

4:45-5:45 – Julian Casablancas + The Voidz – I long to be bored and rich.

6:50-8:15 – Phoenix – Kwame says they’re phenomenal live.

9:15-11:00 – Outkast – Duh.

12:15-12:45 – Hunter Hunted – Cute? SUPERCUTE!

1:30-2:15 – PAPA – I can’t adequately express how excited we are for PAPA to be getting so much real world love these days. Pinpoint (hearts) the fuck out of these kids.

3:00-3:45 – Lucius – One of the best bands happening on the planet now. Treat yourself right and go see them.

4:45-5:45 – Broken Bells – Danger Mouse and the man from the Shins make beautiful music together because, of course they do.

6:45-8:15 – The Strokes – If I get to hear “Last Night” all dirty and raucous live, then my time as a man will have passed just fine. I’m sure they hate playing it. Fuck them, right Greg?

9:30-11:00 – Jack White – You kinda have to be a dick to be such a wildly talented weirdo. Also, his guitar sound is the dirtiest around.

SUNDAY, 6.8!

12:15-12:45 – Meg Myers – Whoa. This chick is serious.

1:30-2:15 – BLEACHERS – Dude from fun. proving he’s got ALL the pop chops. Seriously, this shit is positively delicious.

3:00-3:45 – Frank Turner – The more time passes, the more bummed I am that I didn’t catch this dude playing in a backyard. He was sick. He is beerhall epics.

4:45-5:45 – The Head and the Heart – Folk kindling on the embers of lost redwood feelings.

6:45-8:00 – Foster the People – Superpop, son. Retro underpinnings. Party jams for your future ex-wife to dance to.

9:15-10:45 – Vampire Weekend – I don’t think I’ll ever really like this band but seeing them save the day in the torrential rain of All Points West’s farewell bout leaves a big place in my heart for their taut yipped prowess.
