Weezer Leaves Geffen to go Indie Weezer Leaves Geffen to go Indie

While hosting MTV’s Subterranean, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo announced that the band would be parting ways with Geffen Records and would be releasing future material on their own.  Weezer has been with Geffen since they first exploded onto the scene in 1994 with their self-titled debut success which is commonly and informally referred to as “The Blue Album”.  Details on Weezer’s decision are not entirely clear with giving little to no information as to their reasons for leaving the label that has brought them so far or even what exactly their idea of “going indie” means.  Weezer is reportedly still set to release some material through Geffen, such as a deluxe re-release of their classic 1996 album Pinkerton and a compilation of rare tracks called Odds And Ends.

One thing that Weezer fans have learned over the years is to expect the unexpected as they always seem to have something up their sleeve.  “We’re always planning and scheming something. We’re always working on some new music. I can’t really go into any detail about that yet, but we’re all writing and working on new stuff.”  Bassist Scott Shriner said in an interview with Billboard.  The band has recorded a song on the soundtrack of the new Shrek movie, Shrek Forever After and Cuomo is guesting on rapper B.o.B.’s new album B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobbie Ray.

Having recovered from injuries sustained in their tour bus accident December, Cuomo is ready to perform with Weezer in a series of  live shows this summer which consist mostly of festivals.  Their current itinerary is below.
