Lupe Fiasco - Enemy of the State: A Love Story

Is it just me, or is Lupe Fiasco starting to put together a solid hip-hop resume right before our eyes? Full-lengths followed by mixtapes followed by cameos, and all, well, good. Damn good. I would concede that his first few offerings might have given off the impression that the dude thought he was some epic-ass MC before he had really done anything. Nevertheless, I’ve been a fan since that Kanye song they did together and Food & Liquor, and Lupe Fiasco has yet to disappoint. So I guess it shouldn’t really be a shocker that the latest bullet point on the Lupe Fiasco CV, Enemy of the State: A Love Story is phenomenal and not just “for a mixtape”.

Using tracks by Radiohead, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and The Clipse, amongst others; Lupe’s original lyrics are delivered slightly more aggressively than we’re used to, yet focused and just as clever as ever. With just twelve tracks, it’s short and sweet, and we don’t have to deal with the producer/DJ yelling his own name randomly over tracks like so many other mixtapes out there in the hip-hop world, all of which makes Enemy of the State: A Love Story an excellent addition to your library and the man’s reputation.
