LISTEN! to the Delectable American Melodrama of Frog Eyes’ “Joe with the Jam” LISTEN! to the Delectable American Melodrama of Frog Eyes’ “Joe with the Jam”

I wouldn’t know who Douglas Sirk was if it weren’t for John Water’s relentlessly reverent homages and I wouldn’t know who Frog Eyes is if it weren’t for…well, to be perfectly frank, I don’t really know who Frog Eyes is despite their decade plus commitment to idiosyncratic desperation. I know they are always one man and sometimes his wife and the man had cancer and wrote a record dedicated to his time in diagnosis, treatment, remission as well as the death of his father and that the band’s new record, Pickpocket’s Locket (out 8.28 via Paper Bag) also draws inspiration from the man’s paternal loss by way of the man’s dad’s acoustic guitar and what power the instrument possesses to channel love and this here track (below) is a damn fine testament to that, flushed out as it is with feminine influence. I think you’ll like it, all right. Destroyer does and that’s why he’s taking this rabble of shoe-shuffling Rhododendrons on the road. Go see them and learn a thing or two about being a person. Rockit.
