Launch 2012: Artist Preview – Future Islands

We really like Future Islands here at Pinpoint Music. We like them so much, we named their 2011 release On the Water one of our Top 25 Albums of 2011. We like them so much in fact, we named On the Water one of our top five albums in 2011; and we can’t wait for them to steal the show Launch 2012 on Saturday in Sacramento.

Sure Chromeo and DJ Shadow are the heavy-hitters, but as we learned down in Los Angeles, Future Islands will shake you to the core; with front man Sam Herring leaving you hanging on every note and signature jump and land into a wide stance with his torso and head still 2 to 3 feet behind his legs as he violently snaps his entire upper like a bullwhip to body to catch up. It’s amazing.

Tickets still available at the Launch website: HERE

One of the greatest aspects of synthpop (and even the larger New Wave movement) is the combination of pop music combined with bleak lyrical themes. Future Islands continues this tradition with songs devoted to the demise and fraying of light for the onset of darkness. On the Water is the last flicker of light before extinguishing forever.
