In case you were unaware, the moderately famous person known as Mos Def, changed his name to Yasiin Bey. Because I am unwilling to do any actual research, and because it is actually puzzling, no one seems to know why. So were just gonna leave it at that. Ladies and gentleman, Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey are Black Star!

Mayer Hawthorne – “The Walk”

Is this guy cool because he’s soulful and wears smart-glasses and casually curses in his songs? Yeah, I think so. Dig it.

The Drums – “How It Ended”

Ok, people need to cool it with the Instagram bullshit. We get it, fuzzy, old-timey pictures make every moment seem better than it was, make everyone look less physically flawed than they actually are, make everyone wistful for “that one time”, and make you think you’re “like, totally a photographer”. But you’re not an artist, you just have an iPhone, congratulations, we all do. You’re just an unaware idiot with no actual skills. We all see through it, so stop it.

Trash Talk – “Burn Alive”

Saw these guys at Emo’s in Austin, TX at SXSW, which is cool and super sad at the same time because Emo’s announced this week that they have plans in motion to shut the doors for good by the end of 2011. They will be keeping some of the subsidiaries open, and have plans for some other project, but I’m bummed. Emo’s is a staple in Austin and it’s sad to see them go.
