How to prepare for a DBT show is pretty straight forward. Grab your best friends, grab some Whiskey, and then don’t plan on anything for three days that requires acute hearing. Popular music is littered with “it bands” that don’t have 60 minutes of material recorded yet. It’s nice to contrast that with a group that has been around over a decade and still plays 3 hour sets while touring around 200 shows a year.If you need evidence that some pure rock acts still exist than look no further than DBT.

As a long time DBT fan I have recently been critical of their newest material for it’s lack of ability to engage the listener. When compared to earlier releases I find that the music’s ability to place it’s listener into a alternate place and time is heavily diminished. DBT’s story telling has always been the strongest part or their music to me. I never grew up in the South. I never had Shakespearean level feuds with multiple generations of a family. I never had my Mother marry the baddest ass trucker in the fleet. Yet I was able to identify to the emotions of the protagonists in a lot of DBTs earlier work. The good news is that the live show still brings you in; 3 hours maybe but 90% of the crowd was still begging for more afterward. That’s powerful stuff.
