Kaptain Carbon:

Kaptain Carbon's tenure at pinpoint music was born out of a lost bet and a slight inside joke. The wager involved an autumn evening, three yards of silk and a slightly aggravated bear. How the good Kaptain came to Pinpoint is irrelevant now as he has made it his goal to never leave.  In fact, the offices at pinpoint music recently began changing their locks to force the kaptain to retire to his own lodgings, rather than under his desk.  But through open window, foodcart or unsecured air vent, he will be there at 7 in the morning -- with coffee, cigarettes and black metal.

Sigur Ros – Inni

Sigur Ros – Inni

It is now time to check in with our favorite Icelandic angels, Sigur Ros. For anyone unfamiliar, Sigur Ros is a post rock band who produces achingly beautiful songs capable of reducing grown men to tears. No, honestly, I wept like a little girl before writing this review. The band’s...

Tape Wyrm XIII: New Wave of Indian Heavy Metal

New Wave Of Indian Heavy Metal One of my favorite pastimes, besides creating album covers for fictitious bands, is exploring the development of heavy metal in countries not usually associated with heavy metal. Historically, Europe and the United States have been involved in heavy metal’s most memorable milestones including the...

Justice – Audio, Video, Disco

I am mad at Justice right now. In fact I was thinking about not doing this review because the French electro house duo and I are not on speaking terms. Why am I mad? I don’t know why don’t you ask them? Justice and I used to be friends. In...

Björk – Biophilia

Björk – Biophilia

It goes without saying that Bjork’s eighth album is odd. For the entirety of her career, Björk has challenged and redefined pop music into a shimmering mélange of avant tendencies. Whether or not anyone was around to appreciate it is another story. MTV’s the Real World was on so you...

Tape Wyrm XII: Recent Recommendations

Recent Recommendations Recently, I mapped out the next six months of Tape Wrym. It has been written on parchment with a quill with crimson ink and bound in a giant book with gilded edges. This tome will sit atop a stone bookcase in a large archival labyrinth which runs underneath...

Pinpoint Staff Picks: Halloween Haunts

Pinpoint Staff Picks: Halloween Haunts We here at Pinpoint Music pride ourselves in our personal music choices. With this pride comes a certain obligation to regal anyone within shouting distance certain recommendations based on seemingly banal holidays. Take Halloween for example. You might be dressing yourself up in your cleaver...

M83 – Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming

M83 – Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming

My wife once said the greatest thing about M83 was every song sounded like the ending to every great 80′s movie. There is some truth in that sentiment as the French project by Anthony Gonzalez drips a certain nostalgia and starry eyed optimism. The later work of electronic/dream pop act...

Primus – Green Naugahyde

Primus – Green Naugahyde

Primus’ reign over the better part of the 1990′s taught us two things. One is that a mixture of funk, metal and general silliness could be made and two, it could be done so well. Even further, we saw it could be done with the support of the mainstream. Looking...
